On the one hand, the plate is very sturdy; on the other, it is oil- and grease-resistant, as well as waterproof. The plate owes these properties to its special material, bagasse. It is made from sugarcane fibres, a by-product of sugar production. As a result, the disposable plate is heat-resistant up to 100°C and is therefore suitable for use in the microwave and the fridge. Bagasse plates are more sturdy than conventional paper plates.
